Frequently Asked Questions

Boat Rental Pricing

Boat Lake Placid offers 2-hour, 3-hour, half-day, and full-day pontoon boat rentals on Lake Placid, New York. Pricing depends on boat size and rental length. For current rates, availability, and online booking, please visit our Lake Placid boat rental pricing page.

What’s Included

Each Lake Placid pontoon boat rental includes the boat, a full tank of gas, U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jackets, required safety equipment, a swim ladder for easy access after swimming, and an anchor for relaxing in approved areas of the lake. Most guests do not use an entire tank of gas during their rental. If you need to refuel during your outing, radio us and return to the dock.

How It Works

After booking your Lake Placid boat rental, you will receive a confirmation email with our address, parking details, and required rental information. Please arrive 20 to 30 minutes before your scheduled rental time so we can check you in, fit life jackets for children 12 and under, and review the boat before departure.

Before you leave the dock, our team will walk you through boat operation, safety equipment, lake rules, navigation, and no-wake areas so you feel comfortable heading out on Lake Placid.

Boating License

Boat Lake Placid does not require a boating safety certificate for eligible renters. However, we strongly encourage guests to complete a free online boater safety course at BoatUS.org before their Lake Placid boat rental, especially since many states now require certification.

Every renter receives a full safety, operation, and navigation briefing before departing the dock.

Who Can Drive

The boat operator must be at least 21 years old and have a valid driver’s license. The person signing the rental agreement is fully responsible for driving the boat, supervising passengers, following lake rules, and returning the boat in good condition.

Every renter receives a full safety, operation, and navigation briefing before departing the dock.

Our Boats

Boat Lake Placid offers Bennington pontoon boat rentals on Lake Placid. Our fleet includes 20-foot and 22-foot pontoon boats. Our pontoons are a comfortable option for families, friends, and groups looking for an easy day on the water.

Our 20′ Bennington pontoon boats can accommodate up to 10 passengers. For the most comfortable ride, we recommend up to 8 adults, or up to 10 passengers when children are included.

Our 22-foot boats can accommodate up to 12 people, based on the boat’s maximum capacity and weight limit.

Capacity limits are required for safety and are not flexible. Every passenger counts toward the boat’s total capacity, regardless of age.

Dogs On Board

Yes, well-behaved dogs are welcome on Boat Lake Placid rentals. We allow 1 to 2 dogs per rental with a $35 total pet fee. Dogs are not permitted on the seats, and renters are responsible for any pet-related damage, excessive cleaning, or mess.

Food And Drinks

Yes, guests are welcome to bring food and beverages on board. We ask that you avoid items that stain, spill easily, create excessive mess, or blow around while underway. Our boats are clean and well maintained, and we ask guests to help keep them that way for the next rental.

Kids On Board

Yes, Lake Placid boat rentals are a great option for families. Children 12 and under will be fitted with life jackets before departure. Our team will also review safety rules before your rental so everyone understands how to enjoy the lake responsibly.

No-Wake Zones

Lake Placid has designated no-wake areas, including Paradox Bay, Sunset Strait, and areas within 100 feet of the shoreline. A lake map will be provided before departure, and our team will review no-wake zones during your safety and navigation briefing.

“No wake” means operating the boat slowly enough that it does not create a wave or wake behind it.

Safety And Navigation

Every Lake Placid boat rental includes a safety and navigation briefing before leaving the dock. We review boat operation, safety equipment, lake rules, no-wake areas, and how to share the water with other boats, paddlers, swimmers, and watersports activity.

Insurance

During booking, guests may have the option to add insurance for extra peace of mind. Coverage options may include liability insurance and hull coverage for the rental boat.

If added insurance is not selected, the renter is responsible for damage to the boat, including issues such as propeller damage, torn upholstery, or other repairs needed after the rental. A $500 credit card hold is placed and released the same day, provided no damage or excessive cleaning is needed.

Weather Policy

If severe weather makes boating unsafe, including heavy rain or thunderstorms, Boat Lake Placid will assess conditions and determine whether the rental needs to be rescheduled or canceled. If we cancel due to weather and cannot reschedule, you will receive a refund. If weather cuts your outing short, a partial refund may be issued for the unused portion of your reservation.

Cancellation Policy

A non-refundable $100 deposit is required at the time of booking and will be applied toward your rental.

Reservations canceled more than 48 hours before the scheduled start time will forfeit only the deposit.

Cancellations made within 48 hours of the scheduled rental time will be charged 50% of the total rental fee, as we have likely turned away other guests who could have rented the boat during your reserved time.

Changes that reduce the length of a reservation within 48 hours of the scheduled rental are considered a partial cancellation. The canceled portion of the reservation will be subject to the same 50% cancellation fee.

Guests who are more than one hour late for their scheduled reservation without notifying us may be considered a no-show. No-shows will be treated as a cancellation of the reservation, and we reserve the right to release the boat to other guests. In such cases, applicable cancellation charges may apply.

Weather in the Adirondacks can change quickly. Light rain, passing showers, cloudy conditions, or unfavorable forecasts do not automatically qualify for cancellation. If conditions are expected to improve later in the day, we may offer a delayed start time and prorate any rental time lost due to weather-related delays. Guests may not cancel an entire reservation solely due to weather affecting only a portion of the scheduled rental period when safe boating conditions are expected for the remainder of the day.
In the event of severe weather or unsafe boating conditions, we will determine whether a rental must be canceled. If we cancel and are unable to reschedule your reservation, you will receive a full refund, including your deposit.

Cleanliness And Garbage

We provide each guest with a clean boat and ask that you help keep it that way for the next rental. Each boat has a garbage can on board, so please use it throughout your rental and make sure no trash ends up in Lake Placid. At the end of your boat rental, please remove all personal items and dispose of garbage at the dock. Keeping the boat clean helps create a better experience for the next guest and helps protect Lake Placid and the surrounding waterways.

Sunscreen And Aerosols

We ask that aerosol sprays not be used on the boats because they can damage the upholstery over time. We recommend traditional cream-based sunscreen. If you prefer aerosol products, please apply them before boarding or spray them into your hand and rub it onto your skin.
